Whitefriars to celebrate its 50th Anniversary
Whitefriars College as it came to be known grew in the hearts and dreams of a small group of people years before it took shape in bricks and mortar.
From that day in February 1961 when the pioneers mingled with builders and craftsmen to give life to a school – a faith, vision and tradition has taken shape and influenced many.
(These words were taken from the Silver Jubilee Edition of the College Annual 1985).
We now prepare to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the College with a number of events throughout 2010 culminating with an Anniversary Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral on 14 February 2010.

Blessing and Opening of the new College Chapel
From the first plans of the College a Chapel was seen as an integral part of life at Whitefriars. Over the years a number of small Chapels have provided quiet places for liturgies, reflection and prayer. To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Whitefriars, a Carmelite College, a magnificent new Chapel is rising in the very heart of the College. We will keep you informed of its progress.
The Official Blessing and Opening of the Chapel will be held on Sunday 25 April 2010.
Ball
A very enthusiastic Committee led by well known Old Collegian, past parent and friend of the College Phil Renehan is working hard to ensure that the 50th Anniversary Ball will truly be a night to remember. With his usual flair Phil has many surprises planned, many ways to help us remember the friendships, the music, the stories, the good times at the College. It’s time to get together with old school mates, past parents, staff and our current community. A night not to be missed!

A Record of 50 years
In 2008 a Steering Committee for the 50th Anniversary was formed. There was strong support to embark on a road that would lead to the publication of a book about the College over the past fifty years. Much research has taken place and continues to take place. Many Old Collegians, former staff, past parents and friends of the College have been contacted and have supplied wonderful stories. But this book begins with the Carmelites and their dream to open a College in the Carmelite tradition. A young man, Fr Frank Shortis O.Carm was vitally involved in the project from its inception and today he is still vitally involved in the College both as a Board Member and as a valuable contributor to the publication.
If you have any stories, memories, special moments that you think should be included, please contact .. The human face of the book can only happen through your own stories. The book will be available in 2010. We will keep you updated.
